"파리 가난한 아틀리에에서의 어느 날이었습니다.

밤새도록 그린 그림이 마음에 안 들어 유화 색체를 떼어내 재활용하기 위해 캔버스 뒤에 물을 뿌려 놓았는데

물이 방울져 아침 햇살에 빛나고 있었습니다.

그 순간 존재의 충일감에 온몸을 떨며 물방울을 만났습니다."

"It was just another day in my shabby atelier in Paris.

I didn't like the painting that I've worked on all night, so I sprayed water on the back of the canvas to reuse it.

Then I found that water drops were shining, reflecting the morning sunlight.

I met the water drops, shivering with excitement and satisfaction that I've never experienced before."

그는 각인되어 있는 지난 시간들을 소환하는 과정을 '회귀'라 하였다.

회귀된 결정체는 그 무엇도 아닌 '물방울'이었다.

무엇으로부터 왔는가.

무엇으로 돌아가는가.

무엇이 될 것인가.

무엇을 품고 있는가.

He referred the process of summoning the past times engraved in the memories as 'recurrence’.
The recurred object was nothing but a 'drop of water'.

Where did it come from?
Where is it going back to?
What will it be?
What does it have in mind?

한 방울의 물방울에서, 폭포처럼 떨어지는 소나기에서 영롱거리는 그의 그림이 떠오르는 것은 어찌보면 당연한 일.

물은 흙과 산소만큼이나 우리에게 필요한 필수요소이며, 생(生)과 사(死)를 판별할 수 있는 유기물이다.

그의 그림에서의 물방울은 실체가 없다.

시각적 착시이다.

하지만, 그 안에서 느껴지는 감정은 실체이며, 실존한다.

It is not very surprising that his paintings come to mind when you see a drop of water, a waterfall-like shower of rain.

Water is an essential matter like earth and oxygen. It is an organic matter that could determine life and death.

In his painting, water drops are unreal. It is an optical illusion.

Yet, emotions it consists are real and existent.
