한지는 닥나무로 만들어진다. 나무를 벗기고 증기에 쪄서 두드리고 두드려서 만들어진다.
작가는 그 한지의 원료인 닥나무를 만났다. 닥나무 중에서도 저피(彼皮) 라는 참닥나무 껍질을 주로 사용했다.
유채화 물감의 진득함보다 흐림이 좋아 테레핀유를 많이 섞어
색의 가벼움을 같이 사용하는 작가에게는 무엇보다 딱이다.

Hanji is made of oak trees.
To make Hanji, you have to remove the bark, steam the wood, and pound the wood until it becomes stable and flat.
When Chung Chang-Sup learned about the oak trees, the raw material of Hanji, he decided to use them in his art.
Among the oak trees, he preferred an oak bark called Jeopi; and his artworks were mainly done on Jeopi.
It was perfect for an artist like him who used a lot of terefin oil
because he preferred subtlety instead of the depth that oil paint creates.
